somatic parts work practice
Become the Safe Adult You Always Needed
A practice for clients and practitioners. Learn how to stabilize, tend to the most vulnerable parts of you, and live with more safety, choice & self-trust.
Each of us has a multiplicity of parts that pull us into threat responses or younger versions of ourselves under stress. We have ‘controlling’ parts, ‘shame’ parts, ‘unloveable’ parts. We carry these fragmented survival adaptations into adulthood.
The more complex our personal history, the more split off these parts are from one another. For some of us, being hijacked by our young parts is a painful and frequent reality.
By prioritizing the role and functionality of the nervous system, Somatic Parts Work helps us heal fragmentation and tend to our younger selves. This practice uses body-based tools like orienting, co-regulation, and attunement to help these parts of ourselves come into communication, connection, and healthy relationship with one another.
AS A PRACTITIONER OF 10 YEARS (AND A CLIENT FOR MUCH LONGER), I KNOW WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TO BE RUN BY THESE YOUNG PARTS:
A feeling of being emotionally out of control, oscillating between unsustainable highs and lows
Struggling with disorganized/anxious or avoidant attachment
Difficulty maintaining close relationships
Feeling like you’re not living up to your full potential
Turning repeatedly towards coping mechanisms that hurt you (social media addiction, overworking, people pleasing, etc)
A lack of capacity for long-term stability; regularly choosing short-term relief over long-term priorities
Feeling like you’re at war with yourself, caught in cycles of shame
YOU DESERVE A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE
In order to interrupt the cycle of living from these young ones, we need strong, practiced neural pathways into a steady internal Adult. An Adult that can feel the intensity of the child’s experience without getting overwhelmed. An Adult that has developed self-compassion, understanding of survival strategies, and a willingness to seek support.

“Varia is able to convey clarity, warmth, and a deep respect for our young parts through their approach to somatic parts work. Building our capacity to be with the protected, disowned, and frightened parts of ourselves is not only powerful in our individual lives, but expands our capacity to be more fully present and available in our relationships, communities, and the work we devote ourselves to. Varia weaves all these threads together in their approach to this practice. ”
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
Step One: Stabilization
Somatic work takes us into the internal landscape, which can be overwhelming. Stabilization creates the possibility of connecting with or beginning to develop an internal adult.
Step Two:
Unblend & Listen
Most of the time, we are blended with a young part. Once we have some stabilization in our felt sense experience, the next step is to begin to differentiate and unblend from younger parts.
Step Three: Attunement
Feeling towards vs. about our parts creates the possibility for both your Adult self and younger part to exist at the same time, allowing the young part to feel less alone, and the adult to feel more stable and less flooded.
Step Four:
Finding Wisdom
Shifting from a Power Over to a Power With relational dynamic reframes our struggles into survival adaptations and connects us to the wisdom of our young parts and threat responses, which leads to greater compassion.
Step Five:
Meeting Needs
Here, our young parts get to practice asking a steady Adult to meet their needs, reducing the need for them to hijack the entire system and scramble for control as a path to safety/protection.
Step Six:
Closing the practice
A central part of secure attachment is knowing we can leave and come back, trusting that safety and connection will be there upon our return. We close the practice by doing a final check-in with the young one.

“Varia’s support has been instrumental in helping me finally begin to heal from Complex PTSD and inhabit my adult self in my day-to-day life. Their somatic parts work in particular has been an essential piece of this support, and I am thrilled to have a Varia-style guided practice to use on my own! Varia’s clear and thorough instruction makes it easy to understand the basis for somatic parts work, and the guided audios support me to practice regularly so that I can continue to develop my own capacity and skill to relate to myself and meet my needs in the context of my daily life. Highly Recommend! ”

WHAT DOES “SOMATIC PARTS WORK” MEAN?
Somatic Parts Work is a blend of two modalities: Parts Work and Somatics. Parts work helps our younger, wounded parts and a core self (a steady internal Adult in my work) build a healthy relationship with one another. Somatic Parts Work refers to Parts Work that is deeply informed by the body’s experience. It prioritizes the role and functionality of the nervous system alongside our emotions and energy, tracking (dys)regulation and incorporating a variety of body-based tools.
WHAT MAKES THIS PRACTICE SO EFFECTIVE?
Most of the coping mechanisms and young responses we struggle with are the result of our brain following decades-old neural pathways. They are deeply grooved and rooted in our nervous system. To create new neural pathways, we have to make new synaptic connections, and then go over those connections again and again, until they become stronger and more efficient than the neural pathways we are trying to outgrow. This audio practice, if used repeatedly over time, will help do just that. It’s not a quick fix, but it’s worth it.
“After listening to Varia’s thoughtful and detailed presentation on working somatically with younger parts, I feel confident recommending it as a resource. That level of endorsement is not given lightly. Thank you, Varia, for such deeply supportive work.”
